Violet Sue (Yadon) Simmerman, 87, of Clinton and Pleasant Hill, was born November 7, 1935, in Pleasant Hill, the daughter of William Homer and Eunice Violet (Whitehead) Yadon. She departed this life, Friday, February 3, 2023, surrounded with love at the home she shared with her son and family in Clinton.
Sue was a 1953 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.
On February 1, 1961, she was united in marriage to Ted Simmerman in Miami, Oklahoma, and to this union one son, Bradley Simmerman was born; they divorced in 1963. In March 1969 she was united in marriage to Larry R. Gormley; they divorced in 1972.
Sue was an Administrative Assistant for Allied Signal in Kansas City. Following retirement, she drove for the Oats Bus of Platte County where she also delivered for Meals on Wheels. She had been an active member of the Grace Family Fellowship Church in Pleasant Hill serving as Church secretary for several years. She enjoyed being outdoors boating, fishing, mushroom hunting, and arrowhead collecting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, and she was fiercely protective of all of them.
Sue was preceded in death by one grandson, William E. “Bill” Simmerman and her three sisters, Jennie Bowman, Louise Campbell, and Fay Knox-Brannock.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Jenyfer Simmerman of Clinton; four granddaughters, Jenyfer (and Jeremy) Taylor of Lone Jack, Savannah Mills of Warrensburg, Courtney Collins (and Eric Goggans) of Citrus Heights, California, and Shanyn Simmerman of Clinton; six great grandchildren, Theodore Taylor, Thane Taylor, Thatcher Taylor, Thaddeus Taylor, Paylah Collins, and Annalise Mills; other relatives and friends.
Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the funeral home. Pastor Wyatt Shanks officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Glenn Bowman, Mike Bowman, Rocky Campbell, Colby Knox, Sam Knox, and Shanyn Simmerman. Honorary casket bearers were Danny Knox and Jerry Knox.
