Vera Estelle Storms, 94, of Harrisonville, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born Wednesday, March 1, 1916 in the Main City community near Drexel, Missouri, the daughter of George and Alice (Jones) Mitchell. She departed this life at 2:50 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 in Harrisonville surrounded by her loving family.

On September 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to George Burleigh Storms at her parents' home near Drexel.

He preceded her in death on November 20, 2000. Vera was a homemaker and devoted farmers wife. George and Vera loved to travel especially in the western states including two trips to Alaska; later traveling east to visit family. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend who never saw flaws in a person, but loved everyone unconditionally; she held a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very interested in their family history and a 31 year member of the Mary Sibley Chapter of the DAR.

She was also preceded in death by her sister Fern Hampton and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Alvin (and Linda) Storms of Garden City, Missouri; her daughter Amy (and John L.) Ledgerwood of Harrisonville; Five Grandchildren George (and Karen) Ledgerwood of Lenexa, Kansas, John D. (and Paula) Ledgerwood, of Springfield, Missouri, Laura (and Troy) Hartwig of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Erika (and Alex) Storms of Huntsville, Alabama, and Gary Milian (and Steven) of Raytown, Missouri; Fourteen Great Grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was an active member of the Harrisonville First Baptist Church where services were held Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Dr. David Noble, minister of the church officiated. Interment was in the Sharon Cemetery near Drexel.

Casket bearers were Larry Hampton, Laura Hartwig, George Ledgerwood, John D. Ledgerwood, Gary Milian, and Erika Storms. Memorial contributions are suggested to Harrisonville First Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
