Pleasant Hill, Missouri

Virginia Louise Cook, 82, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born February 9, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel LeRoy and Dorothy Louise (McCulley) Hickerson. She departed this life on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center following complications from surgery.

Virginia was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, and was a 1961 Argentine High School graduate.

While working for the Kansas City Star, she met Carl Randolph Cook, who was serving in the United States Air Force. They were united in marriage on September 2, 1967, in Argentine and to this union, two sons, Curtis and Chris, were born

Once Carl and Virginia started their family, she devoted her time to raising the boys and caring for her family while working part-time as a local church secretary. During a temporary relocation to Omaha, she became a paraprofessional for elementary students, and upon returning to Lee’s Summit, she continued her work as a paraprofessional at Underwood Elementary School until she retired.

Family was most important to Virginia. She loved her “boys” so much and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed large family gatherings filled with the raucous laughter and deep love that a large family brings. She was a Den Mother, on the P.T.A., a marching band mom, and a part of the Music Parents and attended all school sporting and music events for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit. She was also an active member of the Red Hatters. She was an avid reader, liked doing crossword puzzles, and loved to cook. She and Carl also loved to travel, and they visited all 50 states.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Roy Hickerson; one sister, Barbara Wheeler and several cousins.

She is survived by her husband Carl; her sons Curtis (and Kim) Cook and Chris (and Janann) Cook; four grandchildren, Alexis (and Ben) Saforek, Madison Cook (Morgan), Landon (and Hanna) Cook, and Taylor Cook; great grandchildren, Sklyer Saforek, Zane Saforek, Wrenley Cook, Willow Cook, and Beau Cook and other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.
