Wayne Dodson

Charles Wayne Dodson, 79, formerly of Lake Lotawana and Raymore, was born September 2, 1936, in Independence, Kansas, the son of Jesse Boone and Opal Marie (Zollars) Dodson. He departed this life Sunday, February 07, 2016, at the Missouri State Veterans Home, Warrensburg.

Wayne was a 1954 Manhattan, Kansas High School graduate. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959.

On June 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Sue Ann (Freeman) Wendel in Raytown, Missouri.

Wayne was a bricklayer for Weeks Masonry and later J.E. Dunn. Following retirement, he owned and operated Cookie Jars & More in downtown Pleasant Hill for over 23 years. He was a Cub Master of the Lake Lotawana Cub Scouts, an active member of the Pleasant Hill Downtown Assn., and past president of the Bricklayer's Union Local #4.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jessie Lee Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue of Van Alstyne, Texas; one daughter, Sandra Kendall, of Independence, Missouri; three step-sons: Richard (and Helayne) Wendel of Dallas, Texas, Jack Wendel of Austin, Texas, and Kurt Wendel of Westminster, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside military services and interment were held Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
