William R. "Bill" Smith

William Ray "Bill" Smith, 83, of Pleasant Hill, was born August 14, 1942, in Pleasant Hill, the son of George A. and Eula (Wyatt) Smith. He departed this life Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House with family by his side.

Bill was a 1960 Pleasant Hill High School graduate where he served as class president. He earned an associate's degree from the Metropolitan Community College in 1970 and his bachelor's in accounting from Rockhurst in 1972. He earned his Certified Public Accounting Certificate in 1974.

On October 30, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Joan Hatchitt in Kansas City, and to this union two daughters, Jennifer and Angela were born. Joan preceded him in death on December 16, 2023.

Bill was first employed as a Certified Public Accountant for the Troupe, Kehoe, Whitaker, and Kent CPA firm in Kansas City. He furthered his career as General Manager for Kitterman Inc., as Controller for Mid-America Plastics, Controller for Tiger Manufacturing, Chief Financial Officer for Aviation Simulator Technologies, and finished his career as Chief Financial Officer for the Armor Oaks Retirement Village. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching, was the "fixer of everything", loved to travel, and was a chef level cook.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to his team of care providers at the University of Kansas Medical Center for all their wonderful care and support he received in the last several years. They also offer a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Kansas City Hospice staff for their care and guidance through his passing.

Bill was also preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Mary Jane Smith.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Patrick Moran of Pleasant Hill and Angela and Andrew Green of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren, Alexander (and Tiffany), Ryan, Marley (and Jake), Sophia, Justine, Kody, and Justin; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Per Bill's wish cremation has been accorded. No services are scheduled.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to Furry Kids Refuge or the Kansas City Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
