Yvonne Cooper

Pleasant Hill

Helen Yvonne Cooper, 84, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Kingsville, was born August 23, 1938, near Warsaw, Missouri, the daughter of John W. “Wib” and M. Helen (Smallwood) McMillin.  She departed this life Sunday, May 14, 2023, at the Kansas City Hospice House with family by her side.  

Yvonne grew up in the Warsaw/Weaubleau area where she attended high school through the tenth grade.  She attended the last two years at Northeast High School in Kansas City, graduating in 1957.

On October 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Marvin Dale Cooper in Weaubleau, Missouri.  

Yvonne started working for Sears and Roebuck in Kansas City while in high school and continued working there until her first child was born.  She then spent several years as a stay-at-home mom.  She later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Dean Marble Co. in Lee’s Summit and then for the Holden Manor Nursing Home in Holden.  In 1994, she became a grandma and loved babysitting and caring for her grandchildren.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church Lee’s Summit.  Her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, flower gardening, and reading.  She was a great cook, and everyone will miss her soft ginger cookies.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of Pleasant Hill; two children and their spouses, Debra (and Roy) Begemann and Kevin (and Amy) Cooper, all of Pleasant Hill; two grandchildren, Alexis (and Weston) Bussell of Belton, and Noah Cooper of Pleasant Hill; one brother, Billy Joe (and Mary) McMillin of Smithville; other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the funeral home..  Reverend Gary Snowden officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Casket bearers were Brent Atkinson, Bill Brown, Weston Bussell, Noah Cooper, Marlin Hammond, and Johnny Reser.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Lee’s Summit and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
