Zelma Louise Courtney, 84, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Grandview, was born December 4, 1930, in Carrollton, Kentucky, the daughter of Marion Alfred and Jesse Pearl (Sidwell) Day. She departed this life peacefully Sunday, December 7, 2014, at her home in Pleasant Hill.

On January 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to T. C. Courtney in Carrollton, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2006.

Zelma was a private duty nurse, proudly serving quietly in several private homes in the Kansas City area. Foremost she was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed crafting and crocheting; most recently she devoted her time to her great-great grandchild. She was a member of the Southview Christian Church in Grandview.

Zelma was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William Day, Ervin Day, and Jesse Day; and two sisters, Betty Garner and Ruth King.

She is survived by three children, Norma L Walton, Shirley Keith and Bob (and Shery) Courtney all of Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Lucy Dunham of Norman, Oklahoma, and Clara Price of Denton, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014, at the funeral home. Reverend Todd Hopkins will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service; inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
